Projects with schools
 Our objective is to make students and teachers (all the school, one stage…) create a large work which can be placed somewhere in their school. The best option is the mural but they can also create sculptures and others.

The Museum provides its facilities and qualified staff to carry out a project related to ceramics.

a) Specific objectives

1. To develop teamwork: positive interdependence, dialogue between classmates, collective decision-making, reviews, evaluation, etc.
2. To create a collective piece: it will contribute to the aesthetic improvement of the school.
3. To encourage social harmony. It doesn’t matter the origin, sex or skills of the students.
4. To improve the self-esteem of the children: they will see how their work becomes a public work of art.

b) Methodology

The methodology of these projects is cooperative learning. With this method children can improve their skills in maths, fine arts, science, language, etc. It is possible thanks to the teaching of new techniques, terminology and unknown processes which children assimilate easily: basic vocabulary, clay features, transformation during the firing process, sizes, moulds, decoration, etc.
If we want these projects to succeed we need to stimulate children’s attitude and develop their individual skills. Children will be who solve the problems that arise during the activity and they will learn how to be responsible because they will have to take important decisions on their work.
Teachers and instructors are essential, but they won’t be the main figures in the activity. They will advise children, help them with their difficulties, encourage them, organise the tasks, recognise their effort, etc. Once teachers and instructors provide the first rules, children will be able to develop their tasks using the materials and tools which are necessary in every stage of the activity: modelling, fill the moulds, decoration, etc.
After the activity they will also recycle the clay, organise the tools, take the pieces to the drying zone, help the instructors while they are loading the kiln, etc. In conclusion, children will learn habits applicable to their everyday life.

c) Stages

1. Genesis: First, the school will decide which project they want to carry out.
2. Materialisation: coordination between the school and the Museum:
   2.1. Election of the placement of the work.
   2.2. Adaptation of the work to the place: shape, size, etc.
   2.3. Selection of materials: preparation of the templates, tools, grogged clay, wood moulds, glaze, etc.
   2.4. Explanation of the modelling stages.
   2.5. Workshop: previous contact with the raw materials and tools.
   2.6. Production of the pieces of the collective work.
   2.7. Work in the Museum: drying, retouches, firing…
   2.8. Second visit to the Museum (optional): decoration with glaze if required.
   2.9. Second firing (if required).
   2.10. Delivery and assembly of the mural.
