The Contemporary Ceramics collection has been formed thanks to a contest organised by the local council since 1981. This contest was national at first but in 1999 it became l’Alcora Ceramics International Contest (CICA).
Since then its prestige and participation have increased and currently it is one of the most relevant ceramics contests in Europe. Every summer, the exhibition of the final pieces offers the visitors a wide perspective of the present creative trends in the field of independent ceramics. This is also a way to incorporate new pieces, which are awards and donations, to the Museum’s permanent exhibition that includes pieces from potters of the standing of the Spanish Claudi Casanovas, Rafael Pérez, Alberto Hernández, Barbaformosa, Rafaela Pareja, Juan Ortí or Alberto Bustos, and also Ken Eastman (United Kingdom), Pekka Paikkari (Finland), Graciela Olio (Argentina), Roland Summer (Austria), Luigi Gismondo (Italy) or Lu Bin (China). The Contemporary Ceramics collection is a counterpoint and a complement to the rest of the permanent exhibitions of the Museum.
